In speaking with a recently acquired colleague (I think I’m going to start elearning trading cards) we were discussing how difficult for us “experts” (if we can loosely call ourselves that) it is to keep up with all the new web tools, elearning trends, latest software, best techniques, etc.

I know for myself I’m constantly trying to keep up-to-date on what is the latest and greatest, but it is all coming so fast it’s hard to keep up with. Recently someone on Twitter I follow mentioned that they were cutting their RSS feeds down to just the ones they “want” to read not “feel they had” to read. Mine constantly is well over 1000 and I to need to follow this strategy.

It also seems to be that it feels as if one or two colleagues have a really good handle on some new trend and I let them run with it, but go to them for advice about it when the time arises instead of learning what I can myself. Not that I’m not completely interested, but finding the time to commit is difficult.

As mentioned above we are typically the “experts” in this field within our organizations. So how do we maintain that level of knowledge when there is so much to know?

I’m curious to know if you are having the same trouble keeping up with everything? If so how are you coping or managing to stay ahead? What are some strategies that you’ve developed?
