Still plugging along with my LMS project (last post on topic). I think we are at the point that I’m just going to have to make it work and then at some point in the near future I’ll get to say….”I told you so.”

My curiosities for today for anyone out there caring to share your experiences is…

Do you have a catchy name in your organization for your LMS? Or Do you just call it your LMS?

Does it matter really? Is it purely you build it and they come to use it or did they want to know what the new “insert catchy name here” was because of the name?

  1. Hi Tracy!

I think it is very important to brand your LMS with a good name. ‘Learning Management System’ sounds so cold and uninviting. Branding the LMS give you an opportunity to create nicer marketing around the LMS and further associate it with your organization. I used to work at an energy company called Ferrellgas, which was founded and run by the Ferrell family for many decades. We opted to call our LMS ‘FerrellConnect’ – which worked really well.

Branding the LMS also lets you do more when it comes to marketing it to your learners. If you run contests, make announcements, etc., you may gain more interest in a system that has an interesting name.

    Good luck!

  2. Hi Tracy

Came across your post from the Brandon Hall blog and thought I would comment.

We have decided to name our LMS – from DOTS – to SOLLE (SWARH Online Learning & Education) – which will get linked with some sort of groovy character (still in design stage). Our LMS implementation is a region-wide one, so we wanted to emphasise the “region” (being SWARH) aspect of it.

  3. Thanks so much B.J. and Tracey. I suspected as much. I guess I was maybe hoping for one less thing I had to brainstorm on though.

In healthcare there are so many acronyms floating around for so many items, committees, tools, illnesses it will be difficult to come up with a new “catchy” one, but I do like the simplicity of your example B.J.

I’ll keep you posted on the new name.
